Enjoy the Netherlands
The country's name meaning 'low-lands' is derived from the fact that much of the Netherlands lies below or close to sea level. The Dutch have managed, over centuries of hard work and technological and scientific development, to strike a unique balance between water and land.
Its flat and green polder landscape dotted with windmills, the nature and cities all enjoy a close relationship with the ever present water. The Dutch take pride in this rich cultural heritage; their mindset can best be summed up as open, creative, innovative, entrepreneurial, resourceful, and international.
No other city has so many sights per square kilometre. Amsterdam is also a thriving urban centre – a buzzing metropolis in a compact cityscape. Visit the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum to see the worlds largest collections of Rembrandt and Van Gogh paintings.
